Details

Unpaid work, also known as community payback, is one of the options available to sentencers at court. The purpose of unpaid work is to provide punishment and reparation, with individuals carrying out work on projects which benefit their local communities.

This release provides data on the delivery of unpaid work from 1 April 2022 to 30 June 2026. The comparison of periods takes into consideration the latest quarter of data (1 April 2026 to 30 June 2026) and the matching period of the previous year (1 April 2025 to 30 June 2025). By analysing the same quarter of both years, the key points and comparisons are not impacted by the seasonal nature of unpaid work delivery.

This is the first release of unpaid work management information which does not include a separate section for Project Clean Streets. The proposed removal of these tables was subject to user consultation in the previous two releases, with no objections received. The tables have therefore been discontinued for the following reasons:

  1. Project Clean Streets data form a subset of the main data tables
  2. Rapid deployment work is delivered as business as usual in all probation regions and is not managed under a separate performance target.

Historical data for Project Clean Streets can be found on the biannual unpaid work management information collection page at biannual unpaid work management information.
