Get help with your student finance repayment account login details

How you login depends on when you studied and what type of student finance you got.

Applies to England

From October 2026, we began introducing GOV.UK One Login as a way for you to access your student finance account. This means that depending on when you studied, you could have login credentials for an older student finance service. You need to use the same way of logging in that you used when you last accessed your student finance account.

How you logged in depends on when you studied and what type of student finance you got.

If your undergraduate course started before 1 January 2027

You’ll have signed in using your:

  • Customer Reference Number (CRN) or email address
  • secret answer
  • password

You should continue to use this sign-in method to manage your student loan balance.

If your course starts on or after 1 January 2027 and you’re funded through the Lifelong Learning Entitlement (LLE)

You’ll only have used GOV.UK One Login to access your account. You must continue to sign in using GOV.UK One Login to manage your student loan balance.

If you had both undergraduate student finance for a course that started before 1 January 2027 and funding through the Lifelong Learning Entitlement (LLE) for a course that started after 1 January 2027

You may have used both sign-in methods. But you should continue to sign in using GOV.UK One Login to manage your student loan balance.

If you got a postgraduate student loan

You’ll have signed in using your:

  • Customer Reference Number (CRN) or email address
  • secret answer
  • password

You should continue to use this sign-in method to manage your student loan balance.

If you got an Advanced Learner Loan

You’ll have signed in using your:

  • Customer Reference Number (CRN) or email address
  • secret answer
  • password

You should continue to use this sign-in method to manage your student loan balance.

If you cannot find your Customer Reference Number (CRN)

You can find your CRN on any letters or emails we’ll have sent to you about your student finance. You can also use your email address to sign in if you do not know your CRN.

If you need to reset your student finance password or secret answer

You can do this online.

If you need help with GOV.UK One Login

If you use GOV.UK One Login and cannot remember your details, you must reset them through GOV.UK One Login.

Go to GOV.UK One Login for help signing in or resetting your details.

If you’re still not sure

If you’re unsure which sign-in method you should be using, you can contact us and we’ll help you figure it out.
